Open-Air Optical Laser Communication Systems
An Electrical Engineering Major's Senior Project
The open-air optical communication system developed for this project was designed to provide a baseline answer to two important questions for open-air communication. The first is can a system be built using laser emitters and detectors that can transmit between two nodes effectively using standard COTS components. Since the two nodes are operating in open-air with the possibility of something or someone temporarily blocking the path of the emitters and detectors, the second question is can a system be designed to actively and readily detect such interference and be able to recover from it.
